Washington D.C. (March 8, 2019) – Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox, is pleased to announce the firm has won top honors from Managing Intellectual Property magazine at the publication’s annual “MIP Awards” in the “Impact Cases” and the “Patent Prosecution: U.S. National” categories.

The firm was presented the “Impact Case of the Year Award” for work on Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, Allergan v Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Akorn. Directors J.C. Rozendaal, Michael E. Joffre, R. Wilson “Trey” Powers III, Pauline Pelletier and Associate William H. Milliken represented Teva in this headline-producing case. Specifically, the team successfully invalidated all patents in suit following a bench trial. The drug at issue in the case – Restasis® – generates approximately $1.4 billion in annual revenues for Allergan. Prior to final judgement, Allergan transferred the patents to the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe generating further litigation that was ultimately unsuccessful for Allergan.

Additionally, the firm took home the top award in the category “Patent Prosecution: U.S. National” in recognition of Sterne Kessler’s prowess and long-standing market leadership in patent prosecution. These awards validate the firm’s belief that leading patent prosecution and IP litigation practices are truly complementary and strengthen one another.

Finally, Sterne Kessler was shortlisted in three additional areas, including being ranked among the best firms in the U.S. for handling matters at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and for being a top-tier U.S. patent prosecution firm in the Northeast. The firm continued to be listed among the top “IP Specialty Firms in the U.S.,” a recognition it has received consistently, since the MIP rankings were established several years ago.
