Washington D.C. (September 24, 2020) – Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox is proud to announce that the firm was named the “Inter-Partes Review Firm of the Year” and earned the “Hatch-Waxman Impact Case of the Year” award at the 2020 LMG Life Sciences Americas Awards. The virtual event was streamed live from New York, NY yesterday.

The “Inter-Partes Review Firm of the Year” award follows the recent “2020 PTAB Firm of the Year” recognition the firm received from Managing Intellectual Property. Both awards herald Sterne Kessler’s excellence in handling matters before United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). LMG Life Sciences has previously honored the firm with this award.

The “Hatch-Waxman Impact Case of the Year” award honors the firm’s specific success before the PTAB in Amneal Pharmaceuticals LLC et al. v. Almirall LLC. On May 29, 2020, the PTAB issued a final written decision in favor of Sterne Kessler’s client Amneal Pharmaceuticals, giving Amneal and other drug makers the freedom to market generic versions of Almirall LLC’s acne drug Aczone. LMG Life Sciences editor Chris Adams said of Sterne Kessler: “There aren’t many firms that have won an award category three times from LMG Life Sciences, but Sterne Kessler is an appropriate fit for the record due its substantial PTAB group, and one we are happy to name as Inter-Partes Review Firm of the Year. The firm is one of the most active, has the clients, and takes part in novel post-grant matters showcased through its work in the recent Amneal case. Sterne Kessler is tough competition in the IPR arena, and this award win underscores that.”

Sterne Kessler was also shortlisted by LMG Life Sciences in the Intellectual Property, Intellectual Property Boutique, Hatch-Waxman Litigation – Generic, and Patent Strategy “Firm of the Year” categories. The following directors were named as finalists in their respective individual categories: Eldora L. Ellison, Ph.D. and Deborah Sterling, Ph.D. for Post-Grant Proceedings Attorney of the year, Gaby L. Longsworth, Ph.D. for Patent Strategy Attorney of the Year – District of Columbia, and JC Rozendaal for Hatch-Waxman Litigator of the Year – Generic.

This is the eighth consecutive year that Sterne Kessler has received market-leading recognitions from LMG Life Sciences for its notable intellectual property work in the biotechnology sector. Individual LMG Life Sciences “Stars” highlighting the work of specific attorneys will be announced later this year.
