Ryan M. Estatico is an associate in Sterne Kessler’s Electronics Practice Group. He assists with the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and international patent applications related to electronics and software technologies. His technical experience includes electric power systems, electric machinery, renewable energy, automotive technologies, computer hardware and software, and signal processing.

Ryan earned a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering. He has a strong academic foundation in electric power, having concentrated in the field during his undergraduate studies. He also served as a teaching assistant for high-level power systems analysis courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentoring students in advanced concepts such as load flow analysis, stability studies, and system protection.

As part of his technical training, Ryan completed a co-op with a leading automotive manufacturer, gaining hands-on experience in vehicle systems, renewable technologies, and electronics manufacturing. He contributed to the development of improved energy management methods by diagnosing and resolving battery efficiency issues in a pre-production hybrid electric vehicle platform. His work focused on enhancing energy management algorithms and optimizing charge/discharge cycles to increase system performance and energy recovery. He also researched emerging renewable energy technologies and evaluated their viability for integration into manufacturing plants as potential investment opportunities.

He later earned his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law with a focus on intellectual property and innovation law. During law school, he competed in national IP competitions, including the PTAB Moot Court, Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Moot Court, and the USPTO Patent Application Drafting Competition. He was inducted into The Order of Barristers for excellence in oral advocacy.

Before joining Sterne Kessler as a full-time associate, Ryan summered in the firm’s Electronics Practice Group. Prior to that, he represented a global medical technology company, where he supported international IP diligence, Section 337 investigations, and settlement calculations.
