2021 Design Patents Year in Review: Analysis and Trends

Directors Tracy-Gene G. Durkin, Ivy Clarice Estoesta, Daniel A. Gajewski, and Deirdre M. Wells presented a webinar titled “2021 Design Patents Year in Review: Analysis and Trends,” hosted by Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

In conjunction with the release of the firm’s inaugural year-in-review report, speakers offered case summaries and analysis of particularly significant design patent updates and trends. Specifically, the moderator and panelists discussed key 2021 cases involving design patents that were before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, U.S. District Courts, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the International Trade Commission. A look at design cases to watch in 2022 was also explored. And because the design law landscape is constantly changing, speakers provided timely updates on important developments in design law globally and the implications they have for IP holders and practitioners.
