Deirdre has contributed to several technical publications and abstracts regarding protein splicing, and has an array of experience in representing clients from a variety of fields, from the chemical arts to mobile content delivery.

Deirdre M. Wells is a director in Sterne Kessler’s Trial & Appellate Practice Group.  She has patent litigation experience before federal district courts, the International Trade Commission, and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  She has represented clients in a variety of fields, including Hatch-Waxman Paragraph IV pharmaceuticals, chemical arts, medical devices, biotechnology, data storage devices, internet search technology, electrical connectors, wireless broadband technology, telephone systems, and mobile content delivery.

Deirdre has a broad range of litigation experiences including conducting pre-suit investigations, developing litigation strategy and the accompanying tactics necessary to achieve that strategy, formulating claim construction positions, presenting at Markman hearings, conducting fact and expert discovery, performing infringement and validity analyses, identifying prior art to invalidate asserted patents, drafting dispositive and non-dispositive motions, drafting preliminary injunction motions, taking and defending depositions, working with expert witnesses and preparing expert reports, preparing witnesses for depositions and trial, arguing summary judgment motions, questioning witnesses at trial, drafting post-trial briefs, and writing appellate briefs. 

Deirdre also has analyzed intellectual property portfolios, represented clients in trademark litigation, and formulated inter partes reexamination requests.  She has also performed pro bono work representing veterans, asylum seekers, and low-income clients.

Prior to attending law school, Deirdre performed research related to the steps of protein splicing in several Pyrococcus abyssi proteins and the manipulation of those steps. 

Deirdre earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School, and her B.A. in biology and french, magna cum laude, from The College of the Holy Cross.
