Inventing Your Future: Careers in Intellectual Property Law

Sterne Kessler hosted the virtual session “Inventing Your Future: Careers in Intellectual Property Law” on November 13, 2025. This program was intended for law students interested in exploring career opportunities within the dynamic field of Intellectual Property (IP) law.

Attendees gained an understanding of what a career in IP entails, with a focus on both patent prosecution and patent litigation. Our panelists provided clear explanations of patent prosecution and patent litigation, highlighting the differences and unique challenges of each path.

Students heard insights from panelists on the range of technological innovations in their practices and the types of clients they serve, from cutting-edge technology startups to established industry leaders. In addition to offering a real-world perspective on their day-to-day responsibilities, the panelists provided practical advice on how law students can best position themselves for a successful career in IP law.
