Ryan L. Cason is an associate in Sterne Kessler’s Electronics Group. Ryan joined the firm in 2023 as a law clerk after graduating from UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law, where he earned his J.D. with a certificate in intellectual property law.

During law school, Ryan gained a practical understanding of IP law by participating in internships and clinics. During his internship, he gained hands-on experience drafting and analyzing utility patents related to electronics, medical devices, automotive technology and software. During law school, Ryan participated in a pro bono IP and transaction clinic where he prosecuted trademarks, filed copyrights, drafted business agreements, and drafted freedom to operate opinions. Often this work was for clients in the startup stage. Ryan was also an Associate Editor for The University of New Hampshire Law Review.

Prior to law school, Ryan served as a submariner in the US Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Program for 10 years. Ryan spent his naval career operating and maintaining nuclear power plants onboard Navy submarines. He served on the USS Florida and at the S8G prototype nuclear reactor in Ballston Spa, NY. Ryan has extensive industry experience in analog and digital electronics, electronic control systems, motors, power generation, energy storage, energy transmission, electric plants, nuclear power, control logic and circuitry, and batteries. Ryan held various leadership roles within the Navy as well, including Engineering Watch Supervisor and Leading Engineering Laboratory Technician.
