Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox secured final written decisions finding all challenged claims—56 total claims—unpatentable in four inter partes reviews at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) on behalf of Meta Platforms, Inc. The subject patents, U.S. Patent Nos. 8,249,932; 8,332,454; 9,877,345; and 11,470,682 purportedly relate to situational networks and targeted advertising to devices of users associated with a situational network. The patents were asserted against Meta Platforms by SitNet, LLC in SitNet LLC v. Meta Platforms, Inc. f/k/a Facebook, Inc. (SDNY-1-23-cv-06389). That case is currently stayed pending the outcome of these inter partes reviews.
The Sterne Kessler team representing Meta Platforms included Directors Jonathan Tuminaro, Michael Specht, Steve Pappas, Jennifer Chagnon, Timothy Tang, and David Haars as well as Associate Xiaowei Jin. The PTAB case numbers are IPR2024-00612, IPR2024-00529, IPR2024-00530, and IPR2024-00531, all captioned Meta Platforms, Inc. v. SitNet, LLC.
