The European Patent Office held its Patenting Artificial Intelligence Conference on May 30, 2018, in Munich, Germany. Considering the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on our daily lives, the European Patent Office addressed the challenges and opportunities of patenting AI at the one-day conference, connecting people from business, academia, the judiciary, policy making and patent offices in a series of lectures and panel discussions.

Director Rob Sterne was the chair and moderator for both the “Part 1: The Current Situation on Patenting AI” panel, and “Keynote 1: “AI Inventions and The Fourth Industrial Revolution.” Director Michelle Holoubek was a panelist for the session, “Challenges in Drafting Patent Applications for AI-related Inventions.”
