Free Intellectual Property Legal Clinic for Small Businesses

The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center and Sterne Kessler Goldstein & Fox P sponsored the Free Intellectual Property Legal Clinic for incorporated or organized for-profit small businesses to assist with intellectual property needs, including trademarks, patents, copyrights, and intellectual property licensing.

Examples of matters reviewed include:

• Have the business name and logos been registered or otherwise protected?
• Does the business have any patents or need assistance determining if an invention may be patentable?
• Does the business have any licensing agreements?
• Is the content on the business website and social media protected?
• Is the business properly safeguarding its trade secrets?

Attorney volunteers spoke with the small business owners and conducted a brief advice assessment of the business needs concerning intellectual property only.
