Overview

Stephanie L. Elmer, Ph.D., is counsel in Sterne Kessler’s Biotechnology & Chemical Practice Group. She assists in the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications. She has experience preparing and prosecuting applications in the fields of organic chemistry and materials science. Specifically, she has experience in the areas of small molecules, pharmaceutical formulations, small molecule synthetic methods, detergent compositions, agrochemicals, polymers for dental applications, polymer synthetic methods, solid-state batteries, light emitting films, light emitting devices, stem cells, bioprinted tissues, devices for fabricating tissues, bacterial compositions, and medical devices.

Stephanie’s practice also includes counseling clients on existing patent rights and patentability strategies. She has prepared invalidity and non-infringement opinions, performed patent landscape and freedom to operate analyses, and worked on due diligence investigations.

Stephanie received her B.S. in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with distinction. She also earned her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School and her Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her graduate work focused on the design, synthesis and characterization of cross-linked templated dendrimers, which were used as hosts to study binding selectivity with saccharides, nucleosides and porphyrins.
