Overview

Samara Petersen is an associate in Sterne Kessler’s Biotechnology & Chemical Practice Group. Samara assists with the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications. Her technical areas of expertise include molecular biology, microbiology, and genetics.

Samara graduated from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law where she obtained her J.D. and Intellectual Property Certificate. While at the James E. Rogers College of Law, Samara participated in the Intellectual Property Clinic where she assisted innovators with patent application preparation and filed several trademarks under a limited recognition number with the USPTO. Samara was also a Writing Fellow at the James E. Rogers College of Law and the Editor-in-Chief for the Arizona Law Journal of Emerging Technologies.

Prior to law school, Samara received her B.S. in genetics, genomics, and biotechnology from Brigham Young University. During her studies at Brigham Young University, Samara worked in a microbial genetics lab where she studied the microbiomes of fruit flies and deer. Following graduation, Samara worked as a lab technician and then the lab supervisor of a microbiology lab that analyzed bacteria concentrations in nutraceuticals.
