Overview

Robert E. Niemeier is a director in Sterne Kessler’s Trial & Appellate Practice Group. Robert concentrates his practice on patent litigation matters before the federal district courts and United States International Trade Commission. He has represented clients in a variety of electrical and mechanical fields including software, consumer electronics, industrial equipment, power generation, and sporting goods.

Robert has extensive experience across a broad spectrum of litigation proceedings including performing pre-suit investigations, managing fact and expert discovery, preparing expert and fact witnesses, attending depositions and hearings, performing validity and infringement analyses, formulating claim construction positions, and drafting dispositive and non-dispositive motions.

While attending law school, Robert was a Robert W. Willemin scholar and served as an editor of the Michigan Telecommunications and Technology Law Review. He also served in the Entrepreneurship clinic helping student startups manage their intellectual property and seek venture capital funding.

Prior to attending law school, Robert worked as an engineer at a Fortune 500 company designing industrial equipment and managing cost reduction initiatives. During his undergraduate studies, Robert conducted research in improving firefighting equipment and MEMS/NEMS.

Robert earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
