Overview

Preet M. Derasari is a technical specialist in Sterne Kessler’s Electronics Practice Group. Preet supports the firm’s patent prosecution practice with many years of experience in research and technical writing paired with a multidisciplinary knowledge of engineering concepts and principles. His immediate areas of technical expertise span computer architecture, microprocessor design, hardware security, software security, machine learning (notably deep learning, computer vision, reinforcement learning, large language models), electronics (notably microcontrollers, sensors, embedded systems), and communication (wired e.g., Ethernet, optical, and wireless e.g., Bluetooth, mobile, radio).

Preet received his Ph.D. in computer engineering from George Washington University in 2025. His dissertation focused on designing hardware support for automated proactive defenses that enabled further research on securing systems from cyberattacks with novel hardware-software co-design solutions. He also developed advanced automated agents that used deep reinforcement learning to identify malicious behavior and invoke system defenses in response. Preet also studied deep learning models, such as CNNs and methods to secure them against adversarial attacks. While at GWU, Preet worked with the technology transfer office to file a patent for his team’s innovation in a hardware-based cyber deception framework. Preet earned his B.Tech. in electronics and communication engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology. During his undergraduate studies, Preet was actively involved in a student-led CanSat building team where he designed and built the probe’s electronics, sensor and communication subsystem.
