Overview

Bree Vculek is an associate in Sterne Kessler’s Biotechnology & Chemical Practice Group. Bree’s practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications, including utility and plant patent applications. Her technical areas of expertise include cellular and molecular biology, agriculture and food technology, and therapeutic antibodies.

Bree graduated from the George Washington University Law School, where she competed in the USPTO National Patent Application Drafting Competition and was a member of the Giles S. Rich Inn of Court. She was also a student attorney in the Intellectual Property and Technology Law Clinic where she assisted clients with patent, trademark, and copyright prosecution. Throughout law school, Bree served as a policy advisor on Capitol Hill, managed global business development for an antibody discovery contract research organization, and worked in patent prosecution at an IP boutique firm and at a large national law firm.

Prior to law school, Bree received her Master of Biotechnology with a Certificate in Business from Texas A&M University. Her graduate research focused on developing genome wide interspecific chromosome substitution and introgression in Gossypium hirsutum (cotton) and three other wild-type varieties. She also worked with the Office of the Texas State Chemist to respond to a request of an aflatoxin risk assessment analysis in animal feed and feed ingredients from the Kenya, Africa Parliament and regulatory agencies. During graduate school, Bree also interned with an international agriculture company where she was responsible for expanding molecular diagnostic technology for screening plant pathogens in the field.

Bree received her B.A. in biology with a minor in chemistry from St. Catherine University. Her undergraduate research focused on how temperature and nutrient availability influences physiological processes of primary producing organisms in fresh water ecosystems in Minnesota and Iceland.

Outside of her practice, Bree enjoys hiking with her rescue dog, farming, and studying and practicing yoga and holistic health and well-being.
