The Biggest Copyright Rulings of 2026: A Midyear Report

Sterne Kessler Director Ivy Estoesta spoke with Law360 on the impact of this year’s biggest copyright rulings.

In Cox v. Sony, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of internet service provider (ISP) Cox Communications, finding that they cannot be held contributorily liable for its subscribers’ infringement of Sony’s copyrights.

Estoesta commented, “It has huge implications for generative AI companies because they are platforms just like the ISP that was at issue in Cox v. Sony.”
