Washington D.C. (April 16, 2020) – In partnership with the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center, Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox hosted a free law clinic for D.C. small businesses in need of intellectual property assistance. This event, which has been held in-person at the firm offices for the past several years, was conducted virtually using video, phone, and live chat collaboration tools today. With small businesses and nonprofits being hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 crisis, this clinic gave local organizations the opportunity to receive legal advice at no cost to protect their intellectual property. For some of these organizations, their patents, trademarks, and/or trade secrets may be the only asset they have left after this pandemic runs its course.

Over 30 legal professionals from Sterne Kessler, led by Counsel Kristina Caggiano Kelly, provided their expertise in the two-hour long event. The program included an overview of intellectual property law followed by breakout sessions with individual clients who had questions in different areas, such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and licensing agreements. High demand for event registration resulted in a wait list, with representatives from over a dozen organizations participating.
