Forget Buy vs. Build, It’s All About Law Firm/Tech Partnerships

Director Daniel Block spoke to Law.com about Sterne Kessler’s partnership with Thomson Reuters and the growing trend of law firms and legal technology companies co-developing AI tools to meet the evolving demands of the legal market.

Sterne Kessler and Thomson Reuters’ collaboration was featured as an example of one of the first firms to co-develop a custom legal tech tool, the gen AI-powered Patent Claim Eligibility Analyzer hosted on CoCounsel to help evaluate Section 101 patent claims.

Block noted that the firm partnered with Thomson Reuters with to develop the tool because other tools on the market came up short by working in a more “heuristic fashion. … The problem with that approach is it doesn’t really take into account the reality of what the case law is that’s out there.”
