Director Gaby Longsworth, Ph.D. was quoted in the Bloomberg Law article “Black IP Lawyers Who’ve Made It Look to Grow Ranks Beyond 1.7%.” In the article, Gaby discusses the impact of race as early as her educational years and the push needed to increase the pipeline of diverse hires.
When discussing pipline opportunities, “[y]ou can’t just wait until you have some applicants in law school to start diversity efforts,” Longsworth said. “We do some outreach to undergrads, and even students in middle and high school.”
Additionally, “[y]ou can start at some IP law firms in a technical specialist position, where you provide technical and scientific backup” to attorneys while learning the law, Longsworth said.
