This event brought together global thought leaders, policymakers, and intellectual property experts to discuss critical issues at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and industrial design protections. The roundtable focused on the evolving role of generative AI in the creation of industrial designs. Subject matter experts on AI and industrial designs from the USPTO and the private sector examined the following questions:
- How inventorship/creatorship of designs is currently analyzed in various jurisdictions
- How inventorship/creatorship standards for industrial designs are analyzed in light of generative AI
- Whether there should be a different inventorship/creatorship standard for designs as compared to inventions
